Satellite retrievals of evaporation (HOAPS) are still being improved in the monsoon region. Here retrieved values during JJAS are shown (a) and differenced with ECMWF fields (b) which agree more closely with Oberhuber observations (not shown). Differences between the satellite and reanalysis evaporation fields appear to result largely from discrepancies in the near surface humidity (c) with which they correlate strongly.
