As with moisture transports, rainfall amounts are indicative of a more robust hydrologic cycle in the ECMWF reanalysis. Also, the NCEP/NCAR fields depict a westward extended ITCZ over the equatorial Indian Ocean which is not observed in satellite retrievals. The moisture sink represented by this rainfall may have important implications for the moisture which eventually reaches India in a stand alone simulation.
