3.3 Satellite Estimates: Precipitable Water

The largest disagreement between satellite estimates of precipitable water and
the reanalyses occurs over land where 15 mm discrepancies are common. Over ocean, the ECMWF reanalysis agrees closely with NVAP retrievals (within 2 mm). The NCEP/NCAR reanalysis disagreement is larger and exceeds 10 mm in the northern Indian Ocean and northwestern subtropical Pacific.
