1.2 Motivation [for studying the role of the hydrologic cycle]
Water vapor is not merely a passive atmospheric constituent which is redistributed by the monsoon. Rather, through its radiative and latent heating influences,
water vapor is the basis for the monsoon's atmospheric heating. Below the strong
 spatial correlation between water vapor and both convective instability and reduced longwave (LW) cooling is shown.
