The Climate Machine: Volcanoes and Temperature

Decreases in global temperature from year to year are known to be related to volcanic activity and have tended to reverse the presiding warming trend during the later part of the 20th century, at least for a few years.

Pinatubo, in 1991, was a particularly large eruption that cooled global temperatures by about 0.8oC briefly during the 1990's.

If the entire atmosphere cools by 0.8oC, how large of a cooling (in Joules) is associated with the event?
